We had a relatively early start today as we were keen to get started on our next stage of the trip. It was also forecast hot weather which proved accurate, at 37 C and getting warmer and warmer throughout the day. Our water in the water bottles was actually hot to drink and when we paid for something with coins the shopkeeper said I must have had these coins on the dash board of a car. Not so though, they were in the top pocket of our back pack. We had some lovely views of Melbourne harbour with it's cruise ships and then lovely beaches all the way along the coast south. About half the day was on cycle tracks and half rather busy roads. Ready for tea now and a bit of a rest. It's not worth putting the tent up yet as it's still too warm. The campsite has an air conditioned room with wifi which means we can get our body temperature down a little before we go and pitch the tent. I was just getting a thumping headache and finding it hard to think, but already after ten minutes cooling in the air-conditioning I am feeling a little better.
We are making our way clockwise around the bay and will get the ferry tomorrow across the bay towards the start of the great ocean road.
Today's temperature is supposed to be the really hot one and the temperatures start to slide down slowly each day during the week.

sent you a message on warm showers but you might not get it. we're out tonight, but you can leave a message or text 0418563435. the following all depends where you are tonight!
ReplyDeleteYou can follow main road signs to Ocean grove/Barwon Heads or go on a few paths/minor roads.
If you search on google maps Queenscliff Ferry Terminal to The Dunes Cafe Ocean Grove you'll see what I'm about to describe!
Ride straight ahead off the ferry past the shops on your right then parkland on your left, then turn right into Hesse Street [sign says ?railway station, main road curves to left]. Cross railway line then immediately take bike path to left. Continue till path crosses highway, stay on path towards Point Lonsdale. You can stay close to the water or parallel to the road, but turn right into Laurence Rd which will be the first road you come to, just past the school. Laurence Rd turns into Shell Rd, go up a hill, then left into Bonnyvale Road, sign should say Collendina, it's a bit of an offset intersection. Down the hill past the hotel and the road turns right and is called ocean throughway. When the road turns right you need to go straight ahead on a path, it's gravel but ok. After about 3km it will take you to the beach and Dunes Cafe - great place for a break! Hopefully we'll ride to meet you there so I won't bother describing the rest of the way!
